Getting Started with GatsbyJS and WordPress

The words "Getting Started Gatsby + WordPress over a stock background of a shoreline with breaking waves.

This project is for me. You are welcome to read along, but what I am doing here is for future-Ben.

The best way to learn is to teach, and so as I go along, I am going to track my progress and create a resource for myself to be able to remember all that I’ve learned.

To start, I added a subdomain at gatsby.wpsteward.com to be the WordPress backend. I used SpinupWP to host the site.

On that site, I installed the WPGraphQL plugin. I just downloaded the ZIP from the master branch here: https://github.com/wp-graphql/wp-graphql/tree/master even though I know it’s possible to install directly. I didn’t want to take extra time to learn all the intricacies there.

Next, I forked the Tabor Gatsby theme from here: https://github.com/zgordon/tabor-gatsby-theme

Then, I cloned that repo to my local machine.

That’s all I’ve done so far, so up this post goes.
